ART IN LANDSCAPE

ROOF TERRACE @ SOPHIE

Adjacent to the Buffalo Bayou ravine, with a backdrop of nature, this roof terrace is a personal garden for a homeowner who loves arts and enjoys outdoors.

Working closely with the owner, Flora Yeh created garden rooms that consist of a color garden with perennials, flowering trees and shrubs, and ornamental grasses; a tree grove for quiet reading; and a turf area for owner’s two dogs and flexible activities. Sculptures from the owner’s art collection were placed as focal points.

Collaborating with the architect, structural engineer, and contractors, understanding the structural load, wind uplift, drainage, and waterproofing, Flora used raised planters, edging, LiveRoof modules, and structural foam, carefully arranged planting areas and pedestal pavers to define garden rooms.

Owner’s remark: “Flora designed and created a garden that brings me joy and peace every day!”
