PEOPLE PLACE
WEBBER PLAZA @ UT MEDICAL SCHOOL
Webber Plaza is located in the heart of the University of Texas Medical School in the Texas Medical Center. Nestled among the school buildings and other major hospital buildings, Webber Plaza provides an oasis where students, visitors, medical staff and faculty can relax in a comfortable outdoor setting.
Many existing mature live oaks at the plaza have been preserved through the design and construction process. At the center of the plaza adjacent to the school building entrance, a large deck is placed under existing oaks with movable tables and chairs to accommodate group gathering. A wide pedestrian walk with pavers runs through the plaza and also works as an access for emergency vehicles. Large areas of gardens with native and Houston-appropriate plants provide sustainable landscape. Various seating pockets allow users to sit alone or with company in the sun or shade. The quiet sheeting movement of water creates a base for a bronze statue and adds a serene touch to the garden plaza.
Flora Yeh was the project landscape architect for Clark Condon Associates leading the redesign of Webber Plaza.
